Category Image Where Are the New Macs?

No new Macs at MWSF, no new Macs in January, no new Macs so far in February... where are they?
Many Mac fanatics are left wondering if Apple is still in the Mac business. No new Macs were unveiled at Macworld San Francisco, which has typically been a time for Apple to showcase it's latest computers. When Steve Jobs took the stage at his keynote, he mentioned that no Macs were being released at Macworld, but they would be coming soon. January passed and still there were no new Macs. No we pass the midpoint of February and still there are no new Macs.

Does Apple have something big up their sleeve? Is Apple getting out of the computer business and concentrating on consumer electronics? What is next... and when? These are the questions that Mac fanatics everywhere are asking. Rumors point to an updated MacBook, a new 8 core Mac Pro, an new ultra-portable laptop, and updated iMacs... yet none of these rumors seem to be substantiated. The Mac community seems to be in a lull right now and many enthusiasts still have a bad taste in their mouth from Macworld.

Personally, I think it is great to see Apple moving into the business of consumer electronics. The iPod was a wake up call to the industry, and new releases like the iPhone and Apple TV can only add to the company's media success. However, I also think that Apple gained their following by building computers, operating systems, and software. That is the reason they have reached near cult status. By and large, Mac users are loyal to Apple and the expect a certain amount of loyalty in return. If they fail to deliver in these areas, their new found success will be overshadowed by the negative feedback from the community.

The bottom line: Apple... we want new Macs... where are they?
